Russia is the largest Eastern European export market for Germany's food processing and packaging machinery sector, and with around 143 million consumers Russia is a major food and beverage market. The rising demand for these types of products is reflected by Russian imports of food processing and packaging machinery, which amounted to €1.3 billion in 2010.
Germany has long been Russia's most important trading partner for these machines. German export sales of food processing and packaging machinery to Russia amounted to €462 million in 2010, a 6 percent increase over the prior year. And 2011 also promises to be a big year for German food processing and packaging machinery in Russia. Export sales of food processing and packaging machinery to Russia from January to September of 2011 amounted to €362 million, a nearly 16 percent increase over 2010.
Lifestyles and eating habits are changing in Russia and convenience products are in great demand. Their popularity and prevalence are increasing as growing numbers of new supermarkets and hypermarkets spring up. Such stores are also an ever growing presence in medium-sized Russian cities.
Russia currently imports a substantial proportion of its food and agricultural products, ranging from dairy products to meat to alcoholic beverages. Despite its abundant farmland, Russia is not able to meet domestic food demand, and development programs will hopefully reduce the country's dependence on food imports. Thus projects in the agricultural and food industries offer excellent sales opportunities for German machine manufacturers.
Visiting the German pavilion at the UPAKOVKA/UPAK ITALIA 2012 show will afford Russian companies an excellent opportunity to meet leading German food processing and packaging machinery manufacturers and to learn about the latest trends and developments in the food and beverage industry.
The Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi), Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA), and the Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Division of the VDMA (German Engineering Federation) wish you a productive and enjoyable visit to the UPAKOVKA/UPAK ITALIA 2012 show in Moscow.
